Chhmir Ali, who was injured in the Sitakunda explosion, did not receive any compensation

Almost a week has passed since the explosion at Seema Oxygen Limited's factory in Sitakunda, Chittagong, but the injured worker Chhamir Ali has not received any compensation so far. He alleged that the factory authorities did not pay the salary for the month of February

Chamir Ali Seema was a security guard in Oxygen Factory. His house is on the west side of Kadam Rasul Bazar in the upazila. His right leg was injured during the blast. Later he was under treatment in the hospital for about 24 hours. He was discharged after surgery there. However, as he is not fully recovered, he spends his days lying at home.

Chhmir Ali told Prothom Alo that after the sudden explosion, something heavy like iron fell on his right leg. He immediately lost consciousness. He doesn't remember anything after that. Later he found himself under treatment in the hospital. His leg was stitched in four places at the hospital. Even after getting clearance from the hospital, now he has to have his legs dressed by the GPs every day.

He said, 'I was working in the factory. Stay away from the compensation after the accident, no one took any notice whether I was alive or dead.'

Chamir Ali's daughter Selina Akhter said that her father was rescued by local residents after the accident and taken to BSBA Hospital in Bhatiari area of the upazila. I had to pay a bill of Tk 15,600 for just one day of treatment at the hospital. He thinks it may take a few months for his father to recover.

He said that it is difficult for him to support the family as his father is idle. If compensation and salary were received, at least the medical expenses would be covered from there.

When asked, Iftekhar Uddin, manager of Seema Group, told Prothom Alo that compensation has been given to all those who have found out about the casualties. The factory authorities did not know that Chhmir Ali was injured. Chamir Ali also did not inform the authorities. Appropriate action will be taken regarding his compensation.

When asked about the salary, he said that most of the factory workers have already been paid. The workers who have not received their salary, all dues will be paid by next Sunday.

Upazila executive officer. Shahadat Hossain told Prothom Alo that Chhmir Ali was not on the list of injured as he left the hospital and went home. He has already been enlisted.
