"Brother can be found under the stairs"

There are two shops named Bangladesh Sanitary and Anika Agency in the basement of the blast-damaged seven-story building in Siddiqbazar of the capital. Both shops are of sanitary ware. Bangladesh Sanitary Manager Mehdi Hasan alias Swapan and Anika Agency owner Mominuddin Sumon have not yet been found in connection with the explosion. Relatives think that both are stuck in the basement.

A terrible explosion took place at Siddiqbazar near the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan on Tuesday afternoon. Two multi-storied buildings were also damaged. One building is seven stories, another is five stories. Among them, the basement, first and second floors of the seven-storey building were destroyed. 18 people have been killed so far in the blast. Many injured.

The rescue workers have not yet been able to enter the basement of the destroyed seven-story building. Fire service officials believe that more people may be trapped there.

Mehdi's brother Sohag and uncle-in-law Abdul Mannan came to the spot on Wednesday morning. They were crying. They were repeatedly calling for rescue operations to begin.

Sohag was showing the people present where the henna shop was. He was saying, 'My brother's shop is under this staircase. If the rubble is removed, the brother may be found under the stairs.'

Mehdi's home is Noakhali. His family lives there. Sohag said, Mehdi's son is in sixth grade. The girl is six years old. Mehdi is the sole earner of the family
